Spiritual Food: "Woe to Him by Whom Offenses Come"

"Woe to Him by Whom Offenses Come"

Offense causes division in relationships, friendships, organizations, even in church. Here are the verses that pertain to offense and also those which guide us to be able to overcome it.

Matthew 18: 7-9 (Spoken by Jesus) "Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame and maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire."

Just a small explanation here. Jesus is not referring to our physical hands and feet, nor to our physical eyes, but He is referring to our spiritual parts which influence our mind and emotions and cause us to sin or offend someone. But sometimes, we use our physical eyes and see that which we lust for. However, if we close the eyes of our heart and mind to pursue this lust, it will not prevail.

Luke 17: 3  "Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; if he repents, forgive him."

Psalm 133:1-3  "Behold , how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity
It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down
the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge
of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon,
descending upon the mountains of Zion.
For there the Lord commanded the blessings--
life forevermore.

Ephesians 4:1 "I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with
which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit
in the bond of peace."
